Church Food Pantry Changes

When it comes to helping those in need, in particular with food, we feel as a whole, we can do a better job. Beginning this year, we would like to better serve our community and still be able to serve our church as well. We are partnering with the Richmond Community Food Pantry to be able to effectively serve both our community and church. We will still have an onsite food pantry that we will keep stocked for our members or those who are regular attendees to our church (discretion up to the Elders/Ministers). To better serve our community and partner with the Community Food Pantry we will be doing food drives, serving as a church, taking special donations (above regular tithes), and other special events to help them serve the community.
The Richmond Food Pantry works on a referral system. We will be able to refer people in the community to the food pantry (must be referred by the secretary, a minister or an elder). The Community Food Pantry is open every day from 1 pm - 3 pm, except for national holidays. People can receive food once every 30 days. The amount they receive is based on the amount of people living in the household and they are supplied enough food for 3 days.

What are we going to do?
*A box will be put out in the hallway for donations of non-perishable items.
*We will hold monthly food drives to collect food.
*Special monetary donations can be made (above regular tithes & offerings).
*Special events will be held at various times to gather food to donate to the pantry.
*4 - 5 people from our congregation will be needed who can be available during the day, one or two days a month, to help hand out food.
*We will need some strong individuals to be on a call list to be available to help load/unload trucks and stock shelves when needed.

At the end of each month, the food will be analyzed to see if anything is needed in our church food pantry. We will replenish any needed and the rest will be delivered to the Richmond Community Food Pantry.
