Our History

The first service at Central Christian church was held on January 12, 1966, at the home of Hervey Sewell, who became the first minister. A handful of hopeful Christians became charter members that day. Later that year, services were moved to Parkview School in Richmond. In just over a year, attendance had grown significantly and plans were drawn for a permanent facility. A three acre plot of land on National Road West was purchased in 1967, and ground was broken in June, 1968. The first service in the two hundred eighty-five seat auditorium was held December 15, 1968. As certain adjoining parcels of land became available, their addition increased the property to six acres. A building program in 1993 added four classrooms, and a Family Life Center dedicated in 1997 more than doubled the available space. Additional acreage was purchased in September of 2008. This will allow us to expand in the future. From its beginning, Central has reached out to others through witnessing, Bible study and support of missions both home and abroad. Our past has been one of expansion and growth and reaching out to the lost, but it is to the future we must turn. With God's help, we are once again taking a major step of faith so that our congregation can continue to win people to Christ. Together we are. . .

How To Become A Christian

God's Plan Of Salvation
Salvation is a process. What should we do?

1. Believe
The Bible says that “faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). Faith is simply believing what you have heard about Jesus—that He died a cruel death and was buried, but that He rose again. Jesus is the Victor over sin and death (Acts 2:36, Colossians 2:15).

2. Repent
Repentance is perhaps the most difficult and misunderstood part of salvation, because it is often confused with feeling sorry about one’s sins. While it is important to be sorry, repentance is much more. It involves a change in a person’s attitude and way of living. It is the process of admitting one’s sins and resolving not to commit them again. Jesus said, “Unless you repent, you too will all perish” (Luke 13:3). Peter commanded, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you” (Acts 2:38). Paul added that God “commands all people everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30).

3. Confess
Saving faith must be expressed in acts of obedience. The Bible mentions two among the steps to salvation—confession and baptism. Confession is a public declaration of faith in Christ. Paul notes its importance in Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” In the Christian Church, confession often follows the statement Peter made to Jesus when he said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).

4. Be Baptized
The subject of baptism is a great favorite among members of the Christian Church. This is so because the New Testament teems with references to the practice and its importance. The Bible teaches that baptism is the expression of a sincere faith (Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-6, Galatians 3:27, 1 Peter 3:21). We should all take to heart the baptismal instructions given in Acts 22:16, “What are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away.” Nothing in the Bible indicates that any form of baptism other than adult immersion was used in the church.

5. Live a Christian Lifestyle
Of the four steps previously mentioned, only baptism is a once-in-a-lifetime matter. One must at all times live by faith, repent of sin, and confess faith in Christ. Faithful Christian living is facilitated through the church, which God designed to be the nurturing context for spiritual growth.
